TBN: Bold Lips Edition- The Coral Lipstick You Didn't Know You Needed
Updated: Nov 7, 2019
There is a general reluctance to wear red lipstick, as it can be a bit much for most people. A red lip does not bring out your beauty- it brings out your dynamism and style, different things altogether. An alternative that I've grown to love lately, a choice that is easier, sweeter and more flattering than your traditional red, is a deep coral lipstick.
Finding the right coral is equally tricky as a red but once you've pinned it down, it's beautiful territory. While it adds liveliness and colour to your look it doesn't pop out as much as red. Which means that it goes with almost any eye look, natural or smoky, as shown in the photos below. A brief disclaimer: I have explained before that I never think of how other people like my makeup, but just for your information, men seem to like this infinitely more than red. They find it less threatening I think. Whatever that means.
There are amazing shades around in department store brands like YSL and Chanel, however, they are usually in a shiny format that leans very old-fashioned for my liking. I love a matte formula for this hue. My favourites are unfortunately very hard to find, but I am showing them below for reference. In the first photo, is Fever Dream by Pat McGrath.
This shade is available to buy here as part of a set with the beautiful, deep-red Vendetta. As a single shade, it is currently out of stock. When they re-stock, it's usually the first shade to sell out, so keep an eye out for it.
The second photo is my favourite lipstick of all time: Charlotte Tilbury's Rose Kiss. Regrettably, it's currently not available in any retailers or her own website. However, there are equivalent shade matches, not exact dupes, at Nars, Laura Mercier and Smashbox, so get yourself to their counters and start swatching a deep, warm coral. You won't regret it.
